Therapy Intensives in Seattle

At Seattle Trauma Counseling, a therapy Intensive is an extended, uninterrupted block of therapy — from a few hours to several days — that lets you concentrate on your goals without the constraints of a typical weekly session. Intensives are offered by Robert Espiau, Veronica Paige, and Taryn Chin at our Edmonds and Kirkland offices, online, and in select cases in Thailand.

What Is a Therapy Intensive?

Traditional therapy provides direction, guidance and growth. But the usual fifty-minute session really allows for about thirty minutes of therapy, since the beginning and ending of each session takes time. This means that working through trauma or any deep issue can be a very slow process.

An Intensive removes that constraint. It provides a focused, uninterrupted therapeutic block of time to concentrate on your goals and healing. Intensives can be customized for the needs of an individual, a couple, or a group — and for those who feel they need a jump start on traditional therapy, an Intensive provides exactly that: identify the problem, explore its core, and use therapy and experiential work to heal and change lives.

Who Are Intensives For?

When a person is in crisis or wants more intense therapy than just one or two sessions per week, an Intensive is a great alternative. Intensives are designed for:

  • Individuals or couples in crisis who need concentrated support now, not spread across months
  • People who feel stuck in old problems and patterns that weekly sessions haven't been able to break through
  • Anyone who wants a jump start before, or alongside, traditional weekly therapy
  • Those doing deeper work on complex trauma, where extended time makes a real difference

Intensive Formats

Intensives come in a few different formats depending on what you need:

  • Mini Intensives — 2 to 3 hours, for focused work on a specific issue
  • Full-day Intensives — around six hours of direct therapy time in a single day
  • Multi-day Intensives — one to three days, six to eight hours daily, with reflective homework each evening to carry the work between days
  • Online Intensive series — structured weekly or monthly extended sessions, for those who can't attend in person

What Happens During an Intensive?

Intensives combine talk therapy with experiential activities that include art therapy, guided imagery, recurrent theme exploration through timelines and other modalities, parts work, and somatic approaches to name a few. The concentration of time, along with diverse therapeutic interventions, provides a more comprehensive healing experience than weekly sessions alone.

Where Are Intensives Held?

Intensives are held in person at our Edmonds and Kirkland offices, with online Intensives available across Washington and beyond. Select Intensives are also available in Thailand. Clients travel to us from across the greater Seattle area for this work, and some from much further.

For in-person Intensives, travel arrangements and hotel accommodations are made by the client. Recommendations will be given, if needed.

How Do I Schedule an Intensive?

Clients schedule an Intensive by deciding on the goals of therapy with Robert, Veronica, or Taryn, and then planning the amount of time needed to address those objectives. The best first step is a free consultation, talk through what you're facing, and we'll help you work out whether an Intensive is the right format and how much time it needs.

Therapy Intensives: Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the format and your goals. Mini Intensives run 2 to 3 hours, full-day Intensives involve around six hours of direct therapy time, and multi-day Intensives run one to three days at six to eight hours daily, with reflective homework each evening.

A standard fifty-minute session allows for roughly thirty minutes of therapeutic work once settling in and closing are accounted for. An Intensive gives you hours of uninterrupted time, which allows deeper exploration and faster movement — especially for trauma work, where momentum matters.
