Taryn's path as a therapist began in community mental health and inpatient psychiatric hospitals before moving through group practice and into private practice, giving her close to a decade of experience across the full spectrum of human struggle, from clients at their lowest fighting suicidal thoughts to those determined to break free of what holds them back. She holds her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Denver Seminary and is licensed in both Washington and Colorado.
Born and raised in Washington State, Taryn spent over a decade living and working across cultures before returning home to Seattle. That cross-cultural experience shapes her culturally attuned approach and her work with clients navigating identity, faith and family systems. She is also listed with the Asian Mental Health Collective.
Taryn's understanding of trauma is shaped by a simple conviction: everyone has encountered trauma in some form, whether they recognize it or not, and lasting healing has to involve the body as well as the mind. While talk therapy and skill-building approaches such as DBT, CBT and the Gottman Method offer real value, she has seen in her own clinical work and personal work that deeper change happens when the root of an experience is addressed through interventions that engage both mind and body. In her practice that means EMDR, somatic therapy and ego state parts work, tailored to each client's needs and pace. Many people find their way to Taryn when their old coping mechanisms no longer work.
Her two years of training and teaching as a yoga instructor inform how she works with the nervous system, and her framework is trauma-informed, client-centered and culturally attuned. Clients describe her as collaborative and direct in equal measure: she asks clarifying questions, offers perspectives you may not have considered, and will gently challenge you in the direction of your own goals.

Before joining Seattle Trauma Counseling, Taryn was recognized by both Highlands Behavioral Health and Overlake Medical Center for clinical excellence and training leadership, including creating clinical curriculum, building a new-hire training manual, and improving clinical systems and workflows.
